After three long years of being apart, the North America Mission and Values Team of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd - the order that founded Maryhurst and operated it until the 1990s - hosted the return of the North America Good Shepherd Gathering.
The Gathering was held November 1-4, 2022, at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center in Detroit, Michigan. The Gathering is an opportunity for Good Shepherd Mission Partners from Canada and the United States to come together for a time of support and inspiration around our mission, spirituality, vision, and core values. The theme for this year’s Gathering was “Belonging: Seeking Moments of Togetherness.” The Gathering provides a unique opportunity to connect with Good Shepherd people in similar programs and roles.
Maryhurst staff who attended had the chance to engage in a variety of small and large group sessions that helped us look more deeply into our Good Shepherd history and mission, as well as consider the future of our work across North America.
Though we now operate as an inepdendent non-sectarian agency, the expertise, experience, and interconnectedness of the larger Good Shepherd mission continue to hold special relevance and value for our program that, like so many of the others operated by Good Shepherd throughout our region and the rest of the world, provides healing and hope for children who need it most.
